Trading Interview Percentage Drills

Trading interview percentage drills for fast quote, odds, probability-price, spread, and price-change arithmetic.

Candidates preparing for fast quote, odds, and price conversion arithmetic.

Percentages show up in quotes

Trading prompts may ask for probability prices, percentage moves, spread as a percent of midpoint, or expected return. Drill the conversions directly.

Use midpoint context

A spread of 2 means different things around midpoint 20 than midpoint 200. Convert spread to a rough percentage when comparing quote tightness.

Concrete drill

Around midpoint 50, a 2-wide spread is about 4 percent of midpoint. Around midpoint 100, the same 2-wide spread is about 2 percent.

Probability price drill

Convert probabilities to binary contract prices: 37 percent maps to about 37 on a 0-to-100 payoff. Then practice updating by percentage points.

Common mistakes

Candidates often treat every point change as the same percentage change. Always ask what the denominator is before comparing quote moves, returns, or probabilities.
